Reviews
- A great debut of the sextet. This is very accessible contemporary Jazz. Here are professionals at work. The sound is deep and powerful, and the stage is well presented. A lot of traces of late and great musicians, e.g. Coltrane. Creates appetite for the next release. The Optimal pressing is flat, well centered and quiet. Another beautiful ECM release, not to be missed.
- It's not awful, but the bass is bloated and the higher frequencies distant and not engaging. Not at all what I expected from ECM. I'm returning my copy.
- I also noticed that muffled sound...I'd be curious to know why. It seems like a choice during the mixing though, as the hi-res version presents the same "thickness", in its own way..
- The music here is excellent. The pressing itself is also very good (reasonably quiet, flat, etc.). However, there's something amiss because the sound is merely OK, not great as it should be. Strangely muffled sounding. Strange.
