- Edited 2 months agoBack story on the album title “STARS”:
“STARS presented by The Creative Power Foundation on May 27, 1978 Pier 19 San Francisco. "Stars,' the party sequel to "Night Flight," is remembered by many as the pacesetter in this unique San Francisco entertainment phenomenon. Sylvester's 1979 disco album "Stars," was named after this mega party, where "Over 4000 people attended the celebration which was planned to turn people's fantasy into reality." When Sylvester was invited to appear at the Stars party at the Embarcadero in May 1978 he was inspired to write the song "Stars" to celebrate the event. Stars was a huge disco extravaganza and set the standard for future parties in San Francisco. When you purchased your ticket for Stars you were given a can that included this poster, a brochure and a T-Shirt.” - By far the best album from Sylvester, followed by "too hot to sleep". Dont get me wrong: Some other albums have incredible tracks but this one its remarkable, each track have your individual style, Some users already commented about "I Need somebody to love tonight", but my favorite are "i who have nothing", a hypnotic disco, followed by the hit "body strong".
- Just the very best ..a sublime disco album - shows that the sometimes best music doesn't need you to remortgage your life !
- If you hop on over to amazon and look up the review by Lavenderbyrd for Sylvester's Greatest Hits 2cd set, there is a complete History of all his recordings- including info on how the STARS album came to be, his collaborations with The Pointer Sisters, Herbie Hancock, Earlene Bentley, etc. Fun Stuff !!
- The 4 tracks feet perfectly together with one of the most beautiful disco track ever at the end : I need somebody to love tonight. I discovered it with a compilation from the label Sonar Kollectiv but it was a dub version, voiceless i mean.
Ask me which disco album is the best : Stars!!! - Edited 12 years agoSylvester's "I Need Somebody to Love Tonight" could be described as an early "techno" record in my opinion. What an amazing sounding recording for 1979. I can't get over how modern, funky, and emotional this song is. The record was produced by Harvey Fuqua and Sylvester and this actual track was written by Patrick Cowley. Cowley, a few years later, became well known for a remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love", the early 80s HiNRG 'Megatron Man" single, and was part of the San Francisco disco scene during that time. This collaboration effort between Sylvester/Cowley could be described as similar to the Georgio Moroder / Donna Summer electronic connection...each bringing in the late 70s synth-techno disco sound around the same time. Love this record and still sounds fresh and futuristic.
