Talk Talk - The Party's Over — The-fish

This sounds very different to the original UK cut. It's not as upfront, the vocals have way less impact, and there's significantly less top end. Beware!

That's pretty similar to how I feel about The Party's Over. Perhaps they had some serious 80s sparkle added at the original vinyl mastering stage which was deemed unnecesary now. I guess I'll find out if I like it soon enough!

I sincerely don't know what to make out of it. It sounds nice and "warm", but not as sparkly as the previous masters. There is a certain new tendency at Parlophone to make "flatter" remasters (Bowie's Berlin trilogy, for example). Talk Talk seems to be treated the same way.
It's definitely not bad, but sounds surprisingly different. I'm still not sure if I like it this way though.

Ah, I'm not sure how I'll like it on that basis. What do you think of it? I ordered it once I saw that Such A Shame had the faded intro, but I'm not sure I'll like it now. I thought The Colour of Spring from a few years back sounded pretty good, but not as sharply focused as the original. I'd recommend going for a near mint of that (UK cut in my case) over the recut if the price is right.

It's the same for It's My Life reissue of the same batch. Everything is tamed down, flatter and very neutral, compared to the original master.

Would someone add the dead wax info, please? Thank you!
