- Save your money and buy a used Scandinavian NEMS pressing instead of this nonsense of a pressing. Ozzy's voice is buried. Treble is boosted making the cymbals and guitar distortion sound weak. Avoid!
- Awful. Most compressed, noisy record I've heard that isn't a picture disc. Shame, because the album itself is a solid ten out of ten.
- This is a classic Black Sabbath album and this BMG 2015 reissue sounds really good. Just turn up volume on your stereo system and enjoy hard rock.
- Edited 11 months agoHave had this record for many years now. It sounds great, it's perfectly flat and there's no pressing errors whatsoever. Nice embossed sleeves. The current deluxe reissues don't have that. I guess the "muffled sound" is indeed a consequence of the equipment used to reproduce the music. On my setup it sounds as good as it can get. Very dynamic, instrument separation and stereo image is perfect. Just needs a bit more volume boost.
Update: after an ultrasonic wet clean the record sounds even better. There was al kinds of dust, dirt and debris on it, and now that's gone it's really perfect. Listened to the entire record again and I understand why some think it's muffled, especially side A. Ozzie's voice and the guitars sounds less explicit and crisp than on the cd or streaming versions, but that's just because of the mastering where the bass and drums get more presence. The voice and guitars are consequently a bit less on the foreground. Probably linked to the original mix and this could be mastered better. Side B is perfect though I would be interested to hear the VMP version which is said to be so much better. - Sounds OK. Not great, but it will do the job. Lots of noise and hisses throughout the record. And children of the grave starts to sound wonky about a quarter thru the song.
- Sounds pretty good to me. I am using a modest Moving Coil Denon Cart. Does seem to have more clarity than my NEMS 1976 release. My copy came thick, very flat and pretty much dirt free. Shocking, since it came with a plain white paper sleeve. As others have mentioned, no poster for this release BMGRM055LP
- sad, even this reissue would have included the 6 panel poster it would be worth it, but it doesn't seem to come with a poster =(
- I'm _not_ an audiophile, but I can only agree with everyone else: the sound on this is terrible -- dull, lifeless, flat, muffled. I actually wondered if I'm going deaf while listening to this.
- To all the commenters on this release, MoR has a very muffled and compressed tone in the opening songs compared to the rest of the catalog in general. It seems that is either the sound they were going for or just a F-up in the original mastering. The green label WB masters are supposedly even more muffled than the OG Vertigo. Note that on the label the Vertigo logo is only being used for looks. The master almost certainly comes from the WB chain of provenance.
- Rubbish mastering. Muffled and not clear. Side one is bad and drums is in the very back not clear. Side b is slightly better but still not good enough. Don’t buy it if you like clear sound.
