Reviews
- This is a pretty solid album of funk/soul/disco. I'd say it was maybe lacking a killer tune, but there's certainly nothing less than good music here. All the tracks are fairly short - most clock in at around three minutes - it would have been nice to hear at least a few of the grooves build or develop a little more. I bought my copy in San Francisco for $10 back in 2008, I suspect based solely on the cover art as I certainly don't recognise any of the players. It has been sat sadly on the shelf, unplayed and unloved until just recently.
Save The Last Dance is a great uptempo (133bpm) disco track with a smooth male vocal performance alongside some lead sax.
Hurry Down Sunset is the longest track on the album (4m52s). It's a slow soulful groove, but still funky.
You're The One picks up the pace again with another funky disco track with a strong horn section and a electric guitar solo.
Milky Way closes side A with a funky little jam reminiscent of Dexter Wansel's Life on Mars LP. Great synth solo and horn work. This one truely deserves to be longer (2m40s).
Paradise is a short and sweet high tempo (138bpm) jazz-funk/disco number.
Groove City is a sweet and soulful half steppa featuring a bit of flute and some nice background synth work.
Say Won'tcha is a mid-tempo (108bpm) funk jam with a great guitar lick.
Doc is a slow funky groove with some great vocal harmonies. Nice little story of falling in love too.
The album closes with a 31 seconds reprise of the vocal from Milky Way.
