Reviews
- Edited 2 months agoWhile this is a nice sounding pressing, it really isn't as punchy and dynamic as the best of the original US and Canadian pressings (look for JAMF stamped in the deadwax). It's also mastered quite low for some reason (and yes I cranked the volume when comparing to an OG US pressing). So hopefully you have nice clean vinyl. That's the kicker with the original US copies; good luck finding a clean copy ... Anyway, it's definitely a great package with the live show. And the album itself sounds quite good. But just not as good as the very best initial pressings.
- The remastering on this is great. I feel this sounds way better than the original Mercury USA pressings. Vinyl could be quieter in the dead spots.
- Edited 3 years agoI just received this today (2020). I can't believe it took me three years (released in 2017) to 'find' this release and buy it. The presentation is absolutely first class, and the little I had a chance to listen today (basically the studio recording) sounds incredible as well. Already a favorite piece in my collection!
BTW, if like me your sight is not great, access the essay and read it online here:
http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/afarewelltokings40th.html - my copy has 2 - sides 3 and 4! bought online they are sending me a free shippping label for manufacturer return. what a pain.
- I've got "no fill" issues on side two (closer to the heart) of the studio album from this 40th anniversary box set. Simply unacceptable at this price.
