Notes
"Sometime ago a number of subscribers to the Trojan Forum suggested that to celebrate Trojan's 50th box set, fans should be able to nominate the recordings they would like to see issued by the company. When the idea was given the green light, the website was inundated with suggestions and after much debate and discussion, the 150 or so titles proposed were eventually whittled down to the 50 featured on this set."

Reviews
- Edited 5 years agoThe track featured on this box set were selected by the fans. See upper for an excerpt of Stephen Nye liner notes that resume the story.
According to the information available on Discogs, at the time of research (August 2019), 39 songs inlcuded on this box set are still exclusive in Trojan digital catalogue. Out of these 39 songs, 26 remains exclusive on CD (all labels combined). This boxset features an hidden track (51st track). The song is ‘Kaiser Bill’ by Emperor Rosko, issued in 1970. All the songs were released on singles except ‘Chances’ (by Gladdy with Lynn Taitt & The Jets) and ‘Lonely Lonely Man Am I’ (string version) (by Dave Barker) which seems to come from the album ‘In Toronto’ (G Clef, 1974). According to the liner notes, Disc 3 strictly features reggae that was recorded in England. Lower you will find the titles with a few corrections, the way they appeared on singles.
The inclusion of ‘Sitting In The Park’ by Slim Smith is a bit strange as it was available on numerous issues, inluding Trojan’s 1992 compilation ‘Rain From The Skies’. The song ‘Check Out Yourself’ (by The Cimarons) was featured on three box set: Trojan Singles Box Set, Trojan Club Reggae Box Set but the sound is much better on this compilation. Even if the songs included on the box set are considered rarities, Island Records chose to include two of these gems into their 8-CD box set: ‘Sound System: The Story Of Jamaican Music’ (2012). The songs are ‘No More Teardrops’ (by Eric ‘Monthy’ Morris) and ‘Check Out Yourself’ (by The Cimarons).
Based on my research, 9 songs with an asterisk (*) have a different release date than the one written inside the box set.
