Curious to ask if anyone else has similar skipping and surface hum issues with this release. I will admit that during the tracks it sounds deep despite a slight crackle. I hope the mastering on Rep TV improves the experience I've had so far on her Vinyl Collection. 1989 TV is perhaps the best sounding master so far.
genuinely unsure as to why everyone is saying the sound quality is bad, this is the best sounding record in my collection. it doesn’t skip at all. maybe i just got really lucky ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’ve always avoided picture discs due to their reputation (pun) of bad quality and high surface noise, so I held off buying this for years in hopes of an official standard black pressing, but a really good price on Amazon was too good to resist, so I bit the bullet. This is one of my favourite Swift albums and I want to own the original as well as the eventual Taylors Version, so I’ll not regret buying this regardless.
Physically the product’s presentation is top notch. The gatefold is a decently thick card and the artwork for both the covers and discs look obviously very nice. Each disc is shipped in lyric-lined glossy paper inserts. Unfortunately no poly-lined sleeves here.
The songs themselves sound surprisingly good, however true-to-form the surface noise is nigh unbearable. If the songs were loud the whole time it wouldn’t be that noticeable, but this album is quite dynamic at points, so any time the songs mellow down (or the gaps between songs) the surface noise makes it sound like you’re listening in a wind tunnel. It’s that bad. I’m actually shocked that this product is allowed to be sold without a disclaimer about the noise floor.
All in all it’s very nice to look at, it does play, and I’ll absolutely not be parting with it, but my god, it is NOT a Hi-Fi record. Fans will be happy regardless. Audiophiles should and will avoid like the plague. If you’re stuck in between both of those worlds like me, wait for a deep discount.
my copy sounds absolutely amazing, the pictures also so beautiful. This was my first vinyl and i was amazed when i first saw that it’s a picture disc. can’t wait to see and hear taylor’s version 🖤
