Reviews
- Edited 12 years agoThis is a great mix from a musical genius. A perfect example how things work if they are not perfect; or better: if it seems that the blending does not fit, Matthew Herbert makes it to fit. This mix has much more soul than any mix made with software. In Germany we say it has "Ecken und Kanten", which means the set has corners and edges. Not to forget the selection of the tracks. I think Matthew Herbert is the man with the most skills in music, reflecting it in this mix and all of his work. I remember a live performance from him in Studio 672, Cologne. In an (unfortunate) moment his technical setup broke down. He just stood there and explained to his listeners: "That's life. It makes me feel warm inside". Listen!
- After getting one piece of evidence after another of Matthew's vast production talent via his various monikers and collaborations, it is very refreshing to get a taste of the turntable madness he knows how to conjure up as well.
The 22 tracks on this album vary vastly soundwise, yet Herbert manages to splice them all together into one seamless mix that flows incredibly well and builds up an immense intensity towards the end. Apart from the opening track (whose sampling of an alarm clock just grates my nerves), the trackselection is superb and should appeal to a broad spectrum of listeners. The fact that he manages to use an Errorsmith track in there as well adds another star to Herbert's name in my book. Recommended!
