- I'm not sure if all copies are affected by mine has serious background noise throughout. This is clearly a pressing issue rather than damage. Surprised at such poor quality control.
- Yes it's a bit too noisy for a brand new record. I'd say, that's typical for Brownswood - either their vinyl quality is substandard or the pressing has issues. It could be mastered better, too - a lot of the sound is crammed into the middle of the stage. But the music is great and the recording is also pretty good.
- Seriously funky jams. The bass is recorded particularly well. Example: bass clarinet sounds thick & mysterious. Also: tuba! Check it out!
- Edited 2 years agoThe music is amazing and well recorded but my records have areas of way-more-than-normal surface noise for brand new records - really bad in many areas. I just got the double album yesterday and it was pressed in 2018. My guess is the releasing agent dried in the groove or something. I gave each side a wash/vac and rinse/vac.
UPDATE: I recently gave the records a Titebond II glue-cleaning - it helps (removed about 80% of the surface crackle on disc 1 but only about 30% [so far?] on disc 2 [after doing it twice]) but I have to do it again. I've spun this album only a few times because it initially sounded so dirty.
Disc 1 is pretty nice - not new sounding, but nice. Disc 2 still sounds pretty awful. - 2LP+ - Rough Trade Exclusive. 300 Copies on Solid Blue and Solid Green Vinyl.
https://roughtrade.com/gb/music/we-out-here - Various- We Out Here Heard Kokoroko’s Abusey Junction. Had to buy the album, a beautiful track. A sublime collection and a great reflection of the Uk Jazz scene.
- Edited 7 years agoBought this on sight. A compilation by the most prolific DJ of our times that happens to be a big jazz fan and also run a record label that is doing a compilation on modern jazz in the UK. How much more do you need to know? On that note. LP looks and sounds great. Decent pressing and mastering too, some noise on vinyl but also didn't clean it first. This LP has a great perspective that covers the vast range of sounds and feels but still works as a unit. I am looking forward to spending more time with this record and thanks Brownswood for burning this torch. It's bright.
- Incredible release. Aoty so far for sure. I'd recommend this to anybody even vaguely interested in music.
- Well worth a listen, the Kokoroko track is sublime - a fantastic introduction to the healthy sounds of the current UK London jazz scene. Lovely sleeve art and sleeve notes too.
