Recorded 16/17 Juillet 1989, 8 Août 1992, Festival d'Aix Provence (Direction Louis Erlo, Jean-Louis Pujol) Cathédrale Saint Sauveur, Aix en Provence
This performance of Gilles' Requiem (which was first published only in 1764, several decades after its composition) is based on the modern edition of John Hajdu which reverts to the oldest surviving manuscript copied in Toulouse around 1731. The editors have added a part for solo baroque tambour, in keeping with the well-documented tradition of drum participation in eighteenth-century performances of the music. Gregorian chants are interpreted by Ensemble Sagittarius accortding to their appropriate place in the Requiem liturgy.
CD is packaged in a standard black-tray jewel case along with a 16 page booklet, notes in English, including a text of the mass and chants in Latin and English translation.
