Notes
In January 1966, Jean-Noël Coghe toured The Small Faces (Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, Ian McLagan), rock'n'soul band, emblem of the mod subculture. A friendship is formed between these 19-year-olds and we follow their respective journeys, with the vagaries of life: Steve Marriott, from Humble Pie (1969) to Packet of Three (1984); Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, Ian McLagan (plus Ron Wood and Rod Stewart) with Faces (1970). Then Ronnie Lane with Slim Chance (1973), Pete Townsend and Eric Clapton (1977). After the temporary reconstitution of the Small Faces (without Ronnie Lane), Kenney Jones joins The Who (1979), then trains The Law, The Jones Gang. Ian McLagan tours, records with The Rolling Stones, The New Barbarians, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, and many others, then sets up his band Bump Band. In 1983, in support of Ronnie Lane, who has multiple sclerosis, a super group is being created: Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, (Ron Wood), Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Kenney Jones, Steve Winwood, Joe Cocker , Chris Stainton, Paul Rodgers, Ray Cooper, Fernando Saunders, Andy Fairweather-Low Philips Simon, James Hooker, Jam Hammer, on the same stage, united around Ronnie Lane. A dozen concerts in London, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and a million dollars raised for the cause of ARMS! united around Ronnie Lane. Small Faces. Over time, their paths diverge, intersect. In fact, even separated, The Small Faces never left each other. Smalls are siblings!
Fifty years later, Steve (1991), Ronnie (1997) and Mac (2014) left. Kenney perpetuates their memory ... Our memories ... listed throughout the pages of this book, prefaced by Bill Wyman, illustrated in part by the mythical photos of Jean-Louis Rancurel and unpublished sound testimonies of Jean-Noel Coghe ... Smalls ... The Real!
