- Autonation - Sit On The Bass . . . https://www.discogs.com/Autonation-Sit-On-The-Bass/release/5648 . . . And both heavy tunes! ;)
- Great release ! Where Detroit's ransack of Moroder and Kraftwerk and the ORIGINAL electonic pioneers starts morphing into it's own sound.
- Edited 4 years agoV-Agent (see below) beat me to it. I recently snatched up the mighty repress because this is one of those records you'd want to have a second copy of just because you can. I always admired Suburban Knight's scarce yet utterly amazing output. This release is the dogs dangles of the mighty early UR catalog. Love its stark, industrial approach that is quite unique bearing in mind the usual Underground Resistance sound aestehtic. I don't mean that as a derogatory characteristic though.
James Pennington is not a prolific producer. Hence why - perhaps - some of his work got lost in the shuffle amongst all the Final Frontier, High Tech jazz and other Mad Mike fare. Rest assured though, that the more meticulous followers of the "D" school of techno and the more seasoned techno listeners are all over his uber classic vinyls (By Night EP and Nocturbulous Behavior on this seminal techno outlet. Both are magnificent manifests of the more ominous, macabre explorations of the darker spheres of the techno spectrum.
On a little side note. If you are a fan of UK's muscular techno movement of the nineties, or enjoy the more industrial tinged sonics of Spanish stalwarts like Reeko or Christian Wunsch, I would really recommend you treat yourself to any which one of these two records. You'd be surprised how ahead, forward thinking Suburban Knight was with some of his ideas and sound layering. A lot of the producers that later came and claimed their right to the throne of the deviancy probably studied this record front to back, left to right, top to bottom and then did all again backwards. This came out in 1993, and is still a kick ass record. Could you possibly close your eyes, go to a place you have not been to because you were not born yet and try to imagine the devastating effect this had on the dance floors? Yeah, I know. A lot of dues are getting paid to this producer and credit is being given as new generations admire in awe the rigid, powerful structure of this malevolent compositions. - As the years roll on, I am more and more convinced this is the single best release on UR. A big claim, certainly, but yeah. I'm sold.
- On the first Sheep On Drugs album ‘Greatest Hits’, there is an interlude at the end of track 5 (‘Suzy Q’), before track 6 starts, with a riff almost identical to the lead line in ‘Infra Red Spectrum’. The SOD album came out in early 1993, i think: i bought my copy that summer and it had already been out some time by then. Never figured out who ripped off who!
- Edited 7 years agoI remember this being marked as released in 1991. Also cat# 010 and 012 were released around that time. Another commenter mentions that he heard it back in 1992. Then I check this rekkit after almost a decade and see it marked as released in 1993. I understand that a release in terms of the wax is obviously the date it was available for the regular Joe at some record store, but what's the proof that this was actually released in 1993?
- Without this, there is no Surgeon, Regis, BMB or "Birmingham sound." Each and every one of us owe a huge debt of gratitude to James Pennington. This is without doubt his best release, way ahead of it's time and a jewel in the UR catalogue. Immense.
- Edited 7 years agoThis is why we drove whilst being awake for a couple of hours after a 24 hour+ party in berlin, This is why we lost loves because they didn't share or take our passion seriously, this is why we stayed awake for ever, This is techno!
