Reviews
- I obtained this record because somebody labeled this as a jazz-funk. Well, for me it is not, and even less it is a jazz-rock (so maybe guys can update style tag here as well). But for this record it is easier to say what it's not, than what it is. Eric Gale blends many styles here with a great effort. Some jazz, some funk, some pop, some reggae, some soul, and I constantly hear Eric is playing those blues lines on his guitar. I liked it in the beginning, and still do, but for me it sounds a bit too sweet. Yet still recommendable for calm summer evening.
- This album IS hip-hop! "De Rabbit" is basically a dope loop in itself; "East End West End" is straight-up euphoric, lushly orchestrated funk; "Red Ground" has that Scandinavian 70s film music air about it, Jayson Lindh type stuff; "She is My Lady" is basically Cinematic Orchestra long before they were even conceived as an idea, very Charles Stepney-orientated; "Sara Smile" is melancholy Balearic reggae; and - finally - the title track is pure dramatics, golden fodder for the loop digga (very much in the vein of Hubert Laws "Undecided", come to think of it).
