Reviews
- It's very hit and miss. But what does hit, hits!
My favourite tracks were:
- Easy Rollin'
- It's Wonderful
- My World
- An intriguing and fascinating blend of rock, bubblegum pop, soul, blues, funk, stage/screen, and even a little bit of raga from The No-Longer-Young Rascals, backed by brass and strings galore. Both sides give different feelings and sound from each other, where Side A mostly feels like the band is just messing around and having a lot of fun in the studio, like they're still The Young Rascals, (which "It's Wonderful" was originally released under that name as a single, as well as a jukebox record that had most of Side A of this album) but starting with "My Hawaii" then all of Side B, the band takes a much more ambitious and earnest direction, with soulful vocals, lush instrumental arrangements, and a wide variety of styles from track to track, from the mellow, almost reggae "My World", to the fun, bubblegum poppy "Silly Girl", to the gritty and snappy blues of "Singin' The Blues Too Long", to the Love You To and Within You Without You inspired raga rock "Sattva", and to the bombastic Blue Eyed Soul sound of "Once Upon A Dream", practically signifying the change from Young Rascals to Rascals.Truth be told, i originally hated this album with a passion when I first listened to it and found that every track did absolutely nothing for me, but it's grown on me to the point of feeling the complete opposite way now. I would highly recommend checking this out, alongside "See".
