- I loved Drunk for the music, just the "designer" double folded 10" 45rpm is a bit too much.
When i got this Drank i felt cheated, what is this? It's like you have problem with your turntable belt.
(i love noise/strange sometimes "difficult" music, but that is just terribly BORING) - I loved "Drunk", so there is no doubt that the chops provided by Ron C and the Chopstars could do no more than enhance the persepctive of this nerdy-ass musician shouting out everything from Dragon Ball to Mortal Kombat was one that I could instantly relate to. I saw "Drunk" as a time capsule record, which most likely took place in Cat's teen years as he was navigating through the party scene and overall acceptance from his peers. Tracks like "Friend Zone" and "Drink Dat" point to this theory of a young Thunder unsure of his looking glass self when he knows himself to be a Cat. The vibes are spacey, but the audio is throwback funk that would make the 70's proud with a tinge of hip hop that will keep those waiting-for-that-Kendrick-verse's attention throughout the whole record.
- Clearly many of you aren't well versed in chopped and screwed music that comes from down here in Houston lol
- Instead of paying money for this, just buy the 45 RPM "Drunk" box set and play it at 33 1/3 RPM. Same exact thing.
- I feel like I have been chopped and screwed after having to pay for this. It sounds like my cassette player's batteries are dying but I don't want to change them because I don't have any fresh batteries.
- Edited 5 years agoIf you don't like chopped & screwed music, you won't like this. There's nothing new to find here except the track Weakstyle, but it's only about a minute long. And yeah, the tracklisting is different and it's mixed like a DJ mix with no pauses, but that's easy to achieve on your own nowadays.
BUT if you DO like chopped & screwed music, this is fantastic. The Chopstars did a fantastic job making this like the classic C&S albums that bumped down south in the late 90's/early 2000's and it complements the songwriting and the grooves on here so well.
It's really a matter of what you dig, honestly. No harm in that at all. I'm just happy they took such a crazy idea and went the whole nine yards with it... how many chopped & screwed albums have been released on vinyl?! - Pretty disappointed in this one...I have the original 4LP box and this does not do it any justice. I would wait for Thundercat to release some new stuff instead of jumping on this one.
