Thumbing their nose at resurging British nationalism and monarchism, Sons of Kemet present nine pieces of feverish jazz as tributes to nine black women from history they deem more deserving of reverence than our queen. Woven into the album are dozens of other musical styles ranging from funk to grime, all played on the same simple set-up of tuba, sax and drums.

Great music, but the pressing is terrible! Hopefully, the CD sounds better. Way too much noise on the vinyl.

This definitely seems like a step up from what the comments here reflect, for the most part. Very dynamic and lively sound, but I'm hearing a hissing that is mostly in the right channel throughout Sides B and C. "Non-fill", perhaps? Not sure what the correct terminology is. It's almost digital-sounding. It doesn't RUIN the record, but it is sort of annoying. Noticeable on headphones especially.

Any info on the pressing quality? I hope it does not sound as the previous one

The April 2021 repress has little of the depictions of users here. Perhaps someone at Impulse is looking here or responded to feedback. The twin vinyl slabs are flat, stiff (likely 150gm at least) and noise-free, even on first play without a prior rinse. Your Queen is not as dry sounding, shut-in and dynamically-constricted as their first two albums on Naim Jazz; the obvious benefit of spreading 9 songs over 2 LPs.

Very poor quality pressing. Looks to be typical United quality level, which is to say crap. Dimples and wavy formations, edge warp. Disc one appears to be about 150 grams and disc two is a noticeably thicker 180 grams. There is noticeable crackling in the quiet parts.

Mastering wise, there’s nothing exciting going on here. For such awesome percussive music, it’s quite lifeless and lacking in dynamics.

My recommendation is a hard pass. Maybe it will be remastered by someone that knows what they’re doing someday and pressed by a reputable company.

I try to steer clear of all United pressings and can usually find European pressed versions for a few more bucks. Thought I would take a risk and was once again disappointed.

My vinyl sounds pretty ok, although the new Impulse pressings could be better. The sound is dull anyway and it ruind the energy of this album

Great album but bad pressing.
Both discs are slightly warped.
Strange stained marks on side c as well as some strange scratches.
I bought this copy New and sealed in a record shop so this seems to come from a bad pressing issue.

Horrible pressing with ticks and pops throughout even though the surface looks impeccable. A very audible hiss in the right channel. Slight edge warp to both discs. 'Shame 'cause the music is great.

Great album, all those Queens are wonderful! Good energy as usual with Sons of Kemet!
