I picked this up because I really enjoy Rodney's music... oh and it was cheap.

The back cover shows a close-up of Rodney's Guild Johnny Smith Artist Award archtop. That implied to me this would be an album of standards, which is what I was hoping for.
Unfortunately, the first 2 tracks are strange ethereal pieces, with an unhealthy amount of bell tree swipes, and triangle. The actual drum kit is mixed so low, you have to strain to here it.

Finally, track 3 kicks in with something much more in line with Rodney's typical sound, a jazzy soul pop-inspired groove, with big punchy drums, electric sounding guitar, and a bold tenor solo. The album remains more or less on course from there, with some tasty solos from Rodney and the Rhodes player. "Another Bag" is a Wes inspired blues with some tasty straight ahead playing.

Rodney wrote all of these tunes, so he deserves credit where credit is due. Salute.
