Reviews
- The names in the album credits were all (except for Doc) Dallas' first-call studio people. Throughout the 50s, 60s & 70s, Dallas was producing the majority of commercial jingles and production tracks in the country, so these folks had all worked together plenty - and no doubt enjoyed the chance to "rock out" with Doc. And it speaks volumes that he chose to do his album here rather than LA or NY.
- Album opener "I Wanna Be With You" owes a lot to AWB's "Pick Up The Pieces"....Funks almost as hard too.
- Agree on the reviews below, was pleasantly surprised with this one. It's very solid disco/funk with lots of great grooves. Very tasteful overall.
- Edited one month agoI took a chance and picked this up and was pleasantly surprised. Nice blend of pop, disco, and funk mixed in with that big, 70's brassy sound that was standard for that time. Very nice indeed.
- Edited 14 years agoI didn't expect this record to be anywhere near this good. I recently bought a few crates of records and this was one of them. It is NOT cheesy or corny, as I had expected based on his later era of fame as the Tonight Show Band leader. On that show I always thought he was a little bland and tepid, not very funky. On this joint, Doc drops disco, funk and soul there are lots of breaks and thankfully a tasteful (minimal) use of strings. The album is mostly instrumental, there are a couple vocal tracks, again they are well done and compliment the tune.
Thought I'd throw a review this way to alert diggers that this record is not one to pass up!
