Reviews
- I have to agree with everyone who has said this was his best ever album because it was. However looking at who's playing on the album I think this could so easily have been a Patti Austin or Siedah Garrett album.
- Edited 9 months agoOne of my favorite albums. My only complaint with this pressing is that it contains the updated mixes of "Rock With You" and "Get on the Floor."
- Edited 5 months agoAlbum Revolution #1: After leaving "Motown" with his Brothers and releasing the fantastic "Destiny" album, "Michael" got really ambitious, signed a solo contract with "Epic", and began to take over the music world with "Off The Wall"... I always get into fights with people because, I always say that this album is better than "Thriller"....Not more popular, but better Creatively!!!!!! From start to finish, this album is pure fire!!!!! That's because of "Mike" starting his association with producer Extraordinaire "Quincy Jones"!!!! It's because of that this album is an Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Ultimate Crown Jewel!!!! The "Title Track" should have started the album to me, but as with most of his albums, I am not mad that , "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" got the job...The Bassline and "Mike's" opening Dialogue, then the joint just starts pouncing!!!! "Rock With You", the second single, is an instant classic ('nuff said!!!!!)!!!! I don't believe that "Working Day And Night" was a single, but it didn't matter, because it got massive airplay...."Get On The Floor" is also a thumpin' joint written by "Rod Temperton" from "Heatwave", with bass line courtesy of "Louis Johnson" from "The Brothers Johnson"....After the title track on side 2, "Girlfriend", written by "Paul McCartney", is the first cool down joint of the album, and I'm sure it started the friendship they had for a while....I already told you about "She's Out Of My Life" when he performed it live with his brothers...It is one a his most emotional performances ever!!!! My favorite on the album, and my Crown Jewel, "I Can't Help It" (Co written by "Stevie Wonder"), with those mystical Keyboards and bass line, it is non hit classic!!!!! "It's The Falling In Love", (the duet with "Patti Austin"), is another cool down joint with a bumpin' bass line....The final song, "Burn This Disco Out" (also written by "Temperton") rounds out the album like people were still on the dance floor!!! Side note: I heard that every song that "Rod Temperton" wrote for "Michael", was first offered to "Heatwave" and they turned them down....That blows my mind!!!!!! With all that being said, you know that this started the Album Revolution for "Mike", and it helped him the go to the next level to conquer the music world!!!!!!
- MJ was one of the most important performers (entertainers) during the 70's and 80's and this release is where his individual superstar really took hold in a LP. I was not a diehard fan during the time, I was a Rock and Metal collector but I believe if you love music and entertainment you have to appreciate his gift. This is a fun album from lip to edge.
- A lot people assume Thriller to be his best work because of the singles it produced. Nope. It was this.THIS is MJ's masterpiece. Thriller and Bad are both classic albums, but this is the one.
- Such a great album. Great EQ mastered by Bernie Grundman . Deep low ends, crisp high ends and sheeny mids.
Amazing tracks. Close to Thriller maybe better, almost as good as Bad! - Forget Thriller (no disrespect), but this is his best LP. Songs. Performance. Other than Mike's vocals, this is nothing but a Brothers Johnson/Heatwave LP (if you check the credits) that Quincy out together. I just love it.
- Say what you will about MJ later in his life, but he is in fine form here. Probably the greatest disco record ever.
- Edited 3 years agoI've had this album in various formats over the years (cassette and CD and iTunes download). But I cannot believe how GREAT the original vinyl pressing sounds. It is amazing!
