Reviews
- The mastering of this issue is horse shit. I can’t believe this was supervised by Robert Fripp. Maybe his hearing is shot. Sounds like someone put wet towels over my speakers
- My copy has an atrociously pressed side one. Horrid. So many random sharp pops it sounds like a drunken guest percussionist is playing electric bubble wrap through a dominantly microphoned Marshall stack. The worst kind of pop music.
- I use to have a copy of this. Very good pressing, but the master was really poor. A lot of top end missing, sucking the life and the dinamics. This sound more like the 30th anniversary edition. I sold it and stick with the vinyl rips.
- Interesting album that warrants multiple listens.
My copy had some static/noise on Indiscipline. No visible defects in the vinyl on this track though it’s not a perfect pressing, some hair line marks and “chemical” smudges that I can only assume are release agent. Spin clean wasn’t able to eliminate but hopefully a RCM can knock out that pesky noise. Not worth returning, but definitely annoying compared to the represses of Crimson King and Red. - Edited 4 years agoIt's only the second time something like this ever happened to me: an edition that is mostly praised for and that I find it is absolutely garbage! I usually agree with the opinions I read around here (when they are unanimously positive ,or near that) so this is quite strange. I really needed to go back and forth again and again, comparing my modest portuguese first edition with this one and the difference is between day (original) and night (reissue). I mean, this pressing is quiet, the disc is heavy, the sleeve is nice, but the dynamics...where are the dynamics? At first I put the record on the player and after the first 1-2 minutes I said to myself "I thought this record was much better" (as I did not listen to it for about 10 years) and the rest of first and second song only cemented this impression. And then I went for my old portuguese edition and Boom! Is this the same record?! Really?! I will try for someone else to go through this experience just to see if I am not going crazy!
- Alternate mix of Matte Kudasai was not needed... This album was meant to finish with Discipline, I wish they would have respected the original tracklist.
- Absolutely outstanding reissue. Dead quite vinyl, no defects, dynamic, clear sound. I am a super fan of this album (my favourite King Crimson album next to Starless and Bible Black). DGM has done it again. I'm experiencing one of my favourite albums all over again. I never heard the original pressing, but I doubt it's better than this one. Highly recommended.
- Edited 6 years agoWhat?? Only one slab of vinyl? No, No, No! This should've been released as a three disc, triple gatefold, 45rpm extravaganza, with an extra 7" for just $69.00! One song per side! Now there's a proper listening experience for you.
