- My album of the year for 2001 by a mile!!! From "Brotha" to "More than a woman" to "Snowflakes" to " Wish I didn't miss you, this album was the blueprint 4 alot of the neo soul we're hearing today.Coming hot on the heels of " black diamond" this diva set the bar so high even she couldn't reach these heights again.
- Mahogany Soul is the impressive successor of the worldwide successful debut Black Diamond in 1999. On Mahogany Soul let Stone again hear the music where they stoneware in is: a combination of 1960s Motown soul and modern r&b. As sources of inspiration it mentions Johnny Hathaway and Curtis Mayfield but it's mainly the female souldivas of the earlier you is reflected in her music, Gladys Knight and Aretha Franklin. Mahogany Soul contains beautiful and touching songs. Brotha on the power of the black man, the duet More Than A Woman with Calvin Richardson, Wish I Didn't Miss You with a sample of the song Backstabbers of the O'Jays and Time Of The Month, a song about PMS. In contrast to Black Diamond is there this time no enumeration to well-known names that have contributed to the album. Well there is again made room for a beautiful cover: the sensitive and flawless Makings Of You by Curtis Mayfield (1970).
