The only track that sounded like "classic" Soft Cell to my ears (probably closest sounding to Non stop erotic cabaret of the 3 studio albums, proper (my least favourite)), was Caligular syndrome. First listen was disappointing beyond belief but with repeat listens and an acceptance that this was not what I was expecting or hoping for, this is not actually a bad album. Perhaps they're to be commended for not playing safe.

A week comeback and a wrong choice of singles.time to leave Soft Cell rip and remember the good times 80-84.
All Out Of Love could have been a catchy single actually, predictable but it least pleasant what Monoculture was not.

this CD didn't break any new ground for me. "Last Chance" is a beautil track and recalls the golden age of Soft Cell. A beautiful ballad with tricky lyrics. I challenge anyone to sing along to this song without tripping! "Monoculture" reminds me of Memorabilia.
Just as it seems to be a dark charmer as Soft Cell can only be, sadly they came too late for a decent album. It still has this energy to offer but 'Cruelty Without Beauty' doesn't make any speacial announcements - except that Marc and Dave are pushing their fifties alright and although they don't look that bad they're don't look that young any more either.
