Air Liquide's LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY shows off a completely different side to them, as "Part I" is a solid techno track, without the usual complex layering that marks much of their earlier work. "Part II" slows down to provide some of that thoughtful complexity, though it's still comparatively stripped-down -- the 'live' nature of the recording doubtlessly contributes to this sound. "Part III" returns to a steady beat, blending in some acid for good measure, and "Part IV" could be a long-lost Plastikman track from way back in the day. As an added bonus, "If There Was No Gravity" gets a throbbing, creepy mix from Jammin' Unit himself for an unsettling experience. A really strong EP.
