Fake And Phoney. Every single time. 29 years & still deadly without a sign of getting tired, in fact never so relevant today with so many vacant BRAIN WASHED FOLLOWERS out there...
Explorer also smacks hard & would get spins over much from this era of GV, as the rest got played way too much & are a touch overloaded for my simple tastes. - Simply, a moment in time. With Relief already on a seriously roll with Boo Wiilliams, Sneak etc this took things to the next level.
Flash was justifiably the crossover smash, but Fake and Phoney is the secret weapon that matters. An irresistible vocal loop, snares that sound like TV interference and an out-of-control elasticated bassline. Quite incredible. - Probably the most famous EP from Green Velvet. It's famous for a Good Reason. Flash is a killer tech-house tune from Green Velvet. It help inspire many House artists from around Chicago & Beyond with this Track & EP
- Edited 7 years agoSick EP overall - but my favorite is Explorer : exhilarating Chicago House on steroids featuring Curtis Jones' signature twisted vocal work over a slamming overdriven 909 and a hard-as-nails acid bassline that ventures into industrial / noise territory. As mentioned below, I Want to Leave My Body is an underrated slow-burner also more than worth checking out.
- Edited 10 years ago"Flash" is a classic narrative Chicago house madness that properly got me into dirtier Chi-sounds at the time ; witnessing an unsuspected live performance of this with a green-spiked skulled Cajmere mumbling in his headphones back in '95 was a truly life-changing experience. But for those frustrated that the more franky 4/4-yet-experimental super groovy industrial acid moment at the end of the song only lasts for a few seconds, check "Explorer", which is the proper development of the patterns exposed in these few seconds, and frankly one of the great mad Chicago house tunes in history.
