20 years on, the Ad Vanz vs. Gescom track "Viral" sounds as fresh as ever :)

10 years on, the Ad Vanz vs. Gescom track "Viral" sounds as fresh as ever. It is rather straightforward for a Gescom release: washes of melody, a driving rhythm, empty space and a steadily building crescendo; yet the insistent vocal cut-up and shimmering yet hiccuping percussion mark it as more than simple techno. In many ways it sounds like a castoff Autechre track circa 1995, but the layering of sound is much deeper. The end result of this is a track - a song - that rewards the attentive and committed listener. Every listen can reveal nuances not heard before, buzzes and chirps that reset the song into something it wasn't before. "Viral" may be industrial, it may be ambient, it may be isolationist, it may be dance: it is all good.

Foehn's tracks are interesting as well. But the Ad Vanz/Gescom track alone is worth the price of admission.

What an incredible record not sure about the buck rogers samples. The Gescom side of this record is a fine example of these lancashire lads best moments. Deep sounds coming out of the depths fill any room with nodding heads. The best part of this record is when the rumbling deep washy sounds come in about 1/3rd of the way in, beautiful. The track starts with harsh sounds but then come the sweet sounds to level out the composition. This one track is easily on par with Autechre's Incanabula album.
