- Northern Spy tweeted today that they'll be putting it out on LP for RSD. Hope it's true.

But the idea of me putting out a record where I sang seemed ostentatious or pretentious. Like the music of Telly Savalas...I don’t sing very well, I was shy about it. As a character, it made it easier," said John Lurie himself (found this on wiki - with source). Good enough for me, intriguing album!
- Edited 9 years agowell, I'm not sure "fake" is the best word for the job, especially given it's has negative connotations. The genius behind the project is to embody the personas of greats like Ali Farka Touré & other west african musicians, and give you a sense of what's going on in their music, lyrically. In marvin pontiac, you've got a front-row seat to something otherwise inaccessible - malian & afrobeat translated for the occident. Malian music doesn't resemble our western pop-music, in terms of lyrics. What do farmers in Mali think about when they are ploughing their fields and look up to see birds flying over?
