- Put simply Crawdaddy Simone is one of the most beserk mind-melters in existence. Producer Joe Meek really went to town on this one, creating perhaps the very first 'freakbeat' record (before such a term was coined of course). Not content with the heaviest and gnarliest sub-RnB riff to kick off with, he propels his young charges through some fiery double-time machine-gun drumming before unleashing surely thee heaviest and most chaotic feedback-ridden solo of the mid-1960s. It was a very fine day in 1965 when this one was hatched. No one wanted the record when it was first released... it took appearances on countless psych compilations including the original Perfumed Garden (Psycho Records) to seal its reputation as one of thee greatest psych/garage/RnB 45s of the 1960s. An 'EX' copy of this sold on a well known auction site for £1021 in 2009... not that that is the mark of a good record but it tells you something I guess.
