Reviews
- Edited one year agoSuch a great LP dreamy dark shoegazey goodness
Fuzzy guitars and dubbed out drums Craig's baritone was in fine fettle here, let's hope it's pressed onto vinyl sharpish - Don't understand the shade thrown at this album. Lowlife's mystique and magic very much intact. It just makes my heart ache for the albums that might have come after, had the band had more support and encouragement to continue at the time. Jennifer Bachen's strong and empathic backing vocals give this one an extra dimension. The collection definitely has its own vibe, probably to do with the difficult circumstances the band was encountering at the time by all accounts, but it's no worse for that. Consummate professionalism in the vocals and playing, sympathetic production, masterful songwriting, a goldmine of understated ideas all the more spectacular for their understatement. Mellow and dreamy, Gush is lush and deserves its place as one of five unmissable albums by the most underappreciated band of the 80s and 90s.
- The thing about this disc, is it's rare but very skippable. It substantially pales to the earlier singles/EPs, Diminuendo & Permanent Sleep. For collectors & the curious only.
