Don Cherry met Hassan Hakmoun by random chance in 1988 at Don's loft in Astoria, Queens. Don and Adam Rudolph were already friends, and Rudolph had already known Hakmoun. Hakmoun was already working on "Gift of the Gnawa" album with Rudolph and Richard Horowitz. When they met, Don, Hakmoun, and Rudolph all hit it off. Hakmoun invited Don to the recording studio in Brooklyn, and Don laid down lines on his pocket trumpet for "Marahaba" and "Larmame". After the album release, Don toured with the group in Europe for a month.

This record is awesome and desperately needs a vinyl reissue.
