- Edited 2 months agoI bought this back in ‘19… revisiting this record now as it is extremely dynamic! The CD is worth having for another album’s worth of greatness. This pressing does this historic session right! Extremely recommended! I would also think it would have been a great idea to have this a 2 disc set with the remaining material offered!!
- The 2023 repress can be differentiated by the "Tone Poet" Hype sticker. The original version says "Mastered From The Original Analog Master Tape" as the repress says "Cut Directly From The Original Analog Tapes". May be there are additional things to consider which I don't know.
- An absolutely superlative pressing. Separation, clarity, soundstage, tone. You name it, this pressing has it all. The gorgeous gatefold sleeve and thick antistatic inner go a long way, as well. If you love this album, you'll be blown away by this version.
- Edited one year agoI like that the cover shows him playing in a living room, because this, in fact, does sound like he and the whole trio are playing in my living room. Got the first round pressing and it is an absolute highlight of my collection.
- A Post Bop Avantgarde Piano Trio classic. All instruments shine in this recording, foremost CC. Glad that this repress and remarkable gatefold cover are flawless in every aspect. Foremost glad that the first TP releases are finally being repressed one after another and being sold at „normal“ prices.
- Edited one year agoMy copy arrived today, together with Nigeria and One Flight Up.
It has some scuffs, resulting in audible ticks, will go for replacement.
Nigeria and One flight Up, are both flawless, just perfect. - Edited 10 months agoI wanted to update my review. About 10 months ago, I ordered this from Blue Note and got a copy with a lot of hissy groove noise. I cleaned with my Pro-Ject RCM, but the noise remained. I returned it and got a replacement, which had the same type of noise. At that point, I gave up and bought a CD, which I have enjoyed ever since. Recently, I bought a Humminguru. Since I still had that noisy record lying around, I decided to clean it with the Guru. Ran it through the machine three times and found that most of the noise went away. There are still a lot of ticks on the record and it is by no means quiet, but that hissy groove noise pretty much went away.
The record sounds great, with the percussion really popping. The soundstage is not exceptionally realistic, with the drums coming out of the left speaker and the piano and bass out of the right. The piano is very prominent, so it is easy to distinguish it from the bass and both are clearly audible. - Edited one year agoThis Tone Poet is beautiful. The gatefold is top-notch, the vinyl is high quality and clean, and the pressing is mastered to perfection. This is phenomenal music presented perfectly.
- This is turning into one of my all time fave purchases. Never even heard it before in toto prior to buying. So glad I did. Sound jumps out of my kef blades so perfectly.
