Reviews
- One of my all time favorites that introduced me to nu-Jazz from Norway. Biggie’s musician lineups remind me of Miles, as in worth discovery of each players solo work.
- This is the most well known of the Bugge Wesseltoft works and it is something special: jazzy house that has obvious connections to Theo Parrish or Moodymann but with a bit more of an academic background if I may say. It was part of an era where jazzy house was sold as the soundtrack for GenX-ers dinners at home with friends, but the difference is that there are more things going musically here. It is not the minimalism catch of usual house, where a groove sticks and grows because of the repetition of some of its parts: musically everyone is busy here with the keyboards, double bass and rest of the instruments, though the background rhythm is very much detroit house and there are the needed vocal samples. It is a collection of sparse tracks that go over 10 minutes, tracks that use tricks from dub techno but it is very much a different ambient beast.
Bugge Wesseltoft has never stopped being interesting, but this is his most accessible work by far, the one that crossed genres with more success. - Space travel ambient jazz? Believe it people....this is THE album for a late night drive through a urban cityscape at a 3rd floor level.
