Reviews
- This release blows the 2012 vinyl reissue out of the water, especially with the earlier release's sibilance issues. Probably the best sounding vinyl version out there.
- Great job by Speakers corner once again. The pressing is not 100% noise-free and sibilance is evident throughout but this is common to all releases so far (I guess it has to do with the initial recording) and in this case the problem is not that big. I doubt there is a better pressing for the money.
- Edited one year agoDefinitely the affordable pressing to own. Make sure your system gadgets, knobs, and specs are all set to Patti Smith for this one. Plays great with a Nagaoka 300 cart, did not experience extreme sibilance issues. Basically, this pressing comes across as mostly a polished version of a pristine first pressing. There’s a couple areas of more pronounced detail, but the original distortion, compression, sibilance, shortcomings are mainly still present. This would probably need a 45 rpm 2xLP remaster for speakers corner to improve… but then the price would be higher. I try to overlook sibilance as Patti Smith blurs the line of breathy spoken word speak-singing at times.
- Edited 3 years agoI bought this pressing because of the out-of-control sibilants on the 2012 Legacy pressing. The sibilants on this one are much better controlled, but does go precariously close to over-modulation and distortion on occasions. As always this is highly cartridge dependant. Some MC-cartridges with some types of line-contact type styli are more susceptible to this than others. The recording itself is a shitty as it has always been, but at least this one is playable and maybe even enjoyable depending on your cartridge.
- Great, but there is significant sibilance at varying points. Poor cutting engineer used for the lacquer.
- This Pressung is simply perfect. Sound quality and dynamic at it's best.
Record is flat and without any noise.
Speakers Corner Records did a perfect job. - Speakers Corner are quite proud they do all analogue pressings- and so they should be if this 2018 pressing is anything to do by. Great dynamics, heavy weight vinyl and clean between tracks. Note however Speakers Corner has an earlier vinyl reissue in 2006. Perhaps this is simply a repressing of that?
