- Edited 3 months agoBack to 1960 when Newhart had just started his showbiz career he recorded this LP at the Tidelands Motor Lodge Club in Houston, Texas...Actually Smother Bros and Willie Nelson worked that room long ago...You can hear his nervousness in his delivery but what did it matter as he was getting his comedy "sea legs" and had the stellar material on these tracks...He was best NEW Grammy winner in '60 with his huge selling WB record...Add on a TV and movie career, Newhart lasted into his late 90's and we will always have his albums as our treasure to be listened to again and again..."Hello Bob!" You may NOW have that shot...
- Bob Newhart beat out Harry Bellafonte, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole for the Grammy in this era for Best New Artist , Album of year and New Best comedy performance. Some achievement.
- A must own if you are into comedy and especially the history of standup comedy. Mr Newhart revealed in a recent interview that he was practically new to performing standup as this special was being recorded. You can hear a little bit of his nervousness in this performance. But still a solid performance from what would become a comedy legend.
