Reviews
Conjoint, a sort of jazz and techno supergroup, offers a post-rock jazz odyssey with EARPRINTS. "Strange Ideas," for instance, settles into an easygoing groove immediately, buoyed by an effortless vibraphone and a loping beat, with an electronic throb running underneath. The tracks wander about, never firmly alighting on one specific sound or theme, but drift pleasantly. "La Pluie et La Seine" is as pleasant as a stroll along the titular river, while "The Joint" has as close to a 4/4 beat as you'll get here, a hushed tick track gurgling underneath the guitar. "New York Mary Disaster" seems to rocket in from a space station lounge, and "Bar Rock" is the love song of a robot trapped in a seedy dive bar. The short "Deductions" is all woodwinds, and the various interstital "Earprints" link the pieces together in sometimes abstract conjunctions. "No Balls" ends the album on a floating, dreamy note and closes the journey on a blissful note.
