The essay found inside the gatefold of this album is one of the most condescending pieces of music journalism I've ever read, penned by some douche named Mitchell Cohen who has absolutely no business writing about a band he apparently loathes. Of course, in 1986, most music journalists couldn't see past their Haight-Ashbury rose-tinted spectacles, so this is no surprise. The liner notes to the 1990s CD reissues are much more objective in their treatment of the Monkees' relatively short-lived but interesting career.

This LATER Arista Complilation (apart from the Canada x 2 vinyls) is a poor edit down of the superior "The Monkees"
ARISTA DARTY12 great double, all the tracks including "Randy Scouse Git" (UK " Alternate Title") and a non interfered with altered and messed up ENHANCED remix of Daydream Believer in sight or sound! so Avoid pointless.

The staged intro for DB makes it "7-A! What Number is This Chaps? SEVERRNN AYEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Ok man, no need to get excited because I'm sure I know" what is, was, David Lloyd thinking of? Total wetwipe IMHO!

(This reeks of USA Capitol's Beatles albums tweakings edits and needless "enhancements")

Too many best of greatest hits compilations when just that one double album will do. too much ca$hing in bad stuff

The first real, comprehensive, remastered version of the Monkees best songs, issued in the mid-80s. All the good stuff, from "Valleri" to "Last Train" and everything in between, including a couple of Dolenz-Hart songs from the mid-70s that are hard to come by. Also included: the original version of "(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone", a song stolen by Paul Revere & The Raiders to great effect, and our boys' return favor: their version of Revere's "Kicks".

Avoid the CD versions of this, as they are brick-wall mastered and sound gritty and metallic (as many 1st-wave BMG CDs do). The vinyl master, however, is sweet.
