Reviews
- Edited one year agoUPD1. I realized it's also worth noting that ERC's is the first edition to include all Overtures from that cycle, in Stereo, remastered together. (Hence thirteen discs in the package, versus nine that earlier Stereo boxsets would have). So beyond the unprecedented packaging/quality and limited nature of this release, it's also exclusive as far as the contents.
Here's a little context on the "outrageous" price:
(1) Original price of this boxset was £2,950 (or about $4000) when it dropped in Summer 2019, a little less than 2yrs ago;
(2) Why so expensive? Take a brief look at ERC's label website, for starters. This company has a one-of-a-kind, pretty much priceless, 100% pure analog AAA mastering/cutting tract. They press vinyl at about the highest possible quality money can buy. And print insanely expensive, high-quality, custom jackets/sleeves/boxes, matching the priciest art albums and museum catalogs, etc.
(3) There are only 99 copies made. As per ERC's "trademark" brand promise, they "will not undertake a repress of any release at any future point." Pretty much all of Electric Recording Co's releases are instantly sold out.
Now, with that knowledge in mind, the Jan 2020 sale for $4,819 is not an "insane" waste of money; it's a ridiculous bargain! Someone paid barely anything on top of the original selling price (adjusted for inflation), back in Jan 2020, to get "NEW / FACTORY SEALED" copy in Mint condition!! Are you kidding me? Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and the previous owner must've been very desperate for money to let their copy go. I can about guarantee that the other 98 collectors didn't spend life savings on this set. Probably, they won't have any reason to even open the door of the climate-controlled vault where it sits in the next 10-15yrs. - $5696.20, eh? You entice me, but I think I may have to go a little cheaper and nab an unplayed 70s press for $14.99. I'm sure somebody will see that for the steal it is, though, just wait a while longer and you'll get your $5696.20 :)
