Nifty collection of transworld exotica collecting music from South America (Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Peru), India and Turkey. All late '60s / early '70s and very heavy on the wah-wah pedal with many psychedelic flourishes. The South American stuff fits loosely into the 'Tropicalia' genre - the highlight for me being the 1972 offering from Peruvian cumbia band Sonora Casino and their sci-fi epic Astronautas a Mercurio.... a wild trip indeed from a band who were otherwise quite mainstream I believe. Turkish master musician Arif Sag plugs his saz (a type of lute) into a wah-wah for a freaky crossover sound... and the legendary Indian rock outfit Atomic Forest manufacture extremely elemental heavy riffs with Hendrix/ Sabbath influences.
I don't know what the theme or connection is with these bands - I think someone from the label just had a good collection of international funk/psych jams and put them together on one album. It's really good though if you like a dose of the old transworld freakouts. A good one to play alongside the comps from the World Psychedelic Funk Classics label -
