Reviews
- Just a note on the Slinky Wizard tracks on this famous lp: wow! Amazing production values and exceptional sound on these tracks. A special note on "Funkus Munkus": every time I listen to this amazing track I hear more subtle details. The delicious hard Slinky Wiz kick drum that pounds away. The bass synth fluttering along tying the track together. There is what sounds like a sample of Buddhist monks chanting or throat singing in the background, and then that simple yet effective and unforgettable couple of strikes on the tabla with ringing cymbal work. What a trip! The original mix on Dat Records "Analogue Dreams" compilation is similar and also psychoactive. The Wiz was the biz back in 96. ~*~
- Really a pity they didn't include the first two tracks from the CD comp Slinky Wizard "Lunar Juice (Hallucinogen Moon Strudel Remix)" and Pleiadians "Zeta Reticuli (Lazy Spiral Remix)". If they decided apparently to put only one track per side they could thus have added a 4th record, else these 2 other smashers could have been inserted on any side.
Anyway this comp is absolutely outstanding. A mainstay in Goa LPs.
The Flying Rhino has reached the etheric dimension... - Edited 18 years agovery hard- to find compilation which was the first from the infamous Flying Rhino label.
Mostly a pretty well- rounded comp with a few gems on it that stand out fronm the rest of the tracks. Ceratinly the Slinky Wizard track Funkus Munkus is truly one of the best tracks Slinky ever did - psychedelic and deep and tribal, too. Such a superb track was truly meant to be pressed onto wax. The Slinky Nuns track has a very old school Goa taste to it- nothing like the release on Tip Singles 3 which was more techy and less Goa. I found that the tracklisting on the records has a strange correlation to what was pressed- Slinky Nuns with Hallucinogen.. hard and deep; Sheyba with Slinky Wiz- tribal and dark; Technossomy with X- Dream- techno-y and not as deep. An interesting selection of tracks but well worth the money you'll spend on acquiring it.
