Got around to asking Van Duren about the mastering of this lp and this is the response I got concerning the US pressings on Big Sound:

"The original master for Are You Serious? was cut by Bob Ludwig at Masterdisk in NYC in early 1978. All US pressings in the late 1970's were from that master, and there were two pressings (the first having sold out)."

"The album was licensed to EMI in Australia and to London/Decca in the UK/Europe, released in those territories in late 1978. I really don't know for certain but I believe the same master was used in both cases."

It says "Simulated Stereo" on the back cover. Wondering if that's a joke because it sounds like normal two-channel stereo to me. This was 1977 after all.

Wow. Now this is more like it. After searching for a while I finally scored a 1st press USA of this with RL in the deadwax. This press rivals the U.K. pressing. When buying the USA original make sure to ask the seller if the RL initials are in the deadwax as not every USA press was mastered by Bob.
