I don't own an original 1994 pressing, so I can't compare. I just can say that this 2019 pressing is good (for oasis sound) Very good dynamics and very good EQ. Sadly, it is plenty of "little" noise. Generally speaking, is very good (But I miss the "slide in baby..." part sung by Noel in "Slide away").
This is as good as you honestly will get sound-wise for vinyl of this album as just like most of the oasis master recordings back in the 90s the album is brick-walled to red line at 11. This mastering is much richer in sound than the 2014 press and likewise 2019 (picture vinyl) release.
I purchase this records in order to have it in my collection. I did not expect fabulous sound as i know no Oasis record do sounds awesomly. This 2019 reissue sounds little bit flatly, with lacking bit impact. But i am not offended with it. Records as it selves are manufacture with no issue, no cracles, no hissing. They are not perfectly flat, but with clamp... no problem They are very quiet and sounds pretty good. All and all i am happy to have these in my collection
I purchased this to sit alongside my original pressing. More in tribute/nostalgia than expecting it to sound amazing.
Oasis are not a vinyl band. They were mixed and mastered to sound HUGE at the time. A big FUCK YOU to everyone else around them. A statement of intent.
They're a CD band if anything, they're from that generation, mixed and mastered for. You could argue that there's more dynamically going on from the second album onwards, but Definitely Maybe is an onslaught of sound. To hell with dynamics. Ask Owen Morris / watch the (excellent) doc.
So with all that said - of course it's still an enjoyable ride, but to truly experience Oasis it was to see them live anywhere during the Alan White years IMO. No matter how many reissues or mixes of this debut album you make they won't sound any better than when they're turned up to 11 and you're piling down the front during the opening beats of Columbia in a sweaty, intimate venue (in this case The Barrowlands in Glasgow in 2001... EPIC).
Not quite sure what to think of this one. Sounds OK. Definitely better than the widely hated 2014 remaster, at least pressing-wise. Mine has plenty of bass... and it's not a particularly bass-heavy album anyway. Wish I had the original to compare it with, but then again I'm sure a lot of us would like that. In the meantime, this is fine.
Mine has a slightly weird cover, in that the image isn’t centred properly so there is no white border across the top and is thicker along the bottom. Pretty sure it’s not a fake, unless Sainsbury’s got sold some off the back of a dodgy lorry.
