Reviews
- What an fantastic artist he was. This particular record is my first Jeff Buckley and it’s in my top 100 fav’s. Mine is sounding fabulous
- I have variant2, gold, and overall would say it’s very decent. Flat and centred, a bit of surface noise on first play but not excessive. It’s tonally quite bright, but I love the extra detail in the treble actually. Pretty stoked to add this one to the collection.
- No clue which pressing I got, matches the runout matrix exactly but it's black not gold, and it had a barcode on the outer sleeve that should've been a different pressing. Bought from Target.
Anyway, I thought this would be a disaster of a pressing based on the reviews. It's not perfect, but it sounds pretty good, however, the treble gets a bit sibilant at times. I haven't heard a single pop or click throughout, though, and it's flat. Overall, pretty happy with it. - Great album, average/poor pressing. Trying to find a good sounding Jeff Buckley record is becoming so tiresome.
- Edited 4 years ago(Star ratings in my collection are based on the album and not the pressing)
Based on the other reviews, this pressing seems like a bit of a crapshoot. I actually thought a couple of tracks sounded great, and picked up some details I haven't noticed before on them.
However, In quieter tracks it suffers from really obvious surface noise, along with some very noticeable clicks. Worst of all I've noticed on quiet tracks that I can also hear a faint, distorted echo of the music from around 1.5 seconds before it? Really odd and distracting, never experienced anything like it before. I also feel like the audio disorts a bit on one or two of the louder tracks.
All that said, I really can't recommend this pressing. Sadly it sounds like there isn't a solid affordable version of Grace on vinyl yet, just that 2LP 45rpm remaster that's going for extortionate prices. It's a real shame, this album deserves better.
★☆☆☆☆ - Think this must have been pressed at the plant that Kellogg’s make Rice Krispies, hallelujah sounds amazing when it’s not popping and clicking which is most of the time unfortunately i would avoid.
- Just got finished playing this pressing. Flat, uneventful, no depth, no timbre, missing major details, not recommended. The copy I received was warped, had clicks and skips but it also did not have a hype sticker as shown in the listing so it may have been resealed. Bought from a large EU distributor. Do better.
- Jeff Buckley’s Grace is one of my favorite 90s altrock records. Bought the first edition on cd as a 15 year old teenager ca. 1997 and was deeply touched/moved by its beauty. Lost the cd among many others while moving town and changing schools, left a gap in my heart, especially once I heard the news of his early death on the radio. In the last 10 years I bought 3 different vinyl pressings (Sony legacy, music on vinyl, Columbia) of which all had their faults. Pops and non fill, warped vinyl, strange mastering etc. the only possible listening pleasure was combining the passages that got done well of each different pressing. Luckily, this garbage is over now with the 25th anniversary gold vinyl. It’s still not as silent as the music deserves it, but at least it’s totally listenable from start to finish without getting angry or an headache. Sound is wonderful, pressing is solid! Finally I can hear Hallelujah on vinyl without disgraceful vinyl noise :) THIS is the pressing to get if you don’t already own this record or if you are like me looking for a sonic upgrade. Regarding myself, I will sell my 3 older pressings and just keep this one. It’s - finally - that good.
