Reviews
- Edited one year agoWell, 'You're Living All Over Me' and its predecessor and follow-up are, of course, works of magic, and they'd deserve a place on this list, too. But I remember a lonely evening in 1994, aged 16, watching TV, MTV, which mainly sucked, but there's been this one show (120 minutes?) playing music by a band called 'Eric's Trip' next to a song by Dinosaur Jr. from their then new album, the one featured Here. If anything could capture the vibes back then, this would be it. 1990 "Alternative" music in its Essence. Drums, vocals, guitar... all better than anything I had experienced before. And I had never heard of 'Dinosaur' before, this one luckily changed it. Good pressing by MPO (yes, indeed... 😉) and some good bonus. Those were the days, my friend...
- Beautiful pressing. About as quiet as I can ask for and the discs are as flat as an IHOP pancake on a Sunday after church service. My only reference is my digital FLAC rip that I've listened to for years and it stands toe to toe with it. The packaging is beautiful and the blue really pops on my wheel of steel. I love this album, it's a top 5'er for me, and I will cherish this release for the rest of my life.
- After reading mixed reviews on the pressing quality, I wasn’t expecting much… but the leads on ‘out there’ pop out of the mix in a spectacular way. This is an amazing mix and amazing pressing.
- i agree with the others that is a great release and the bonus content is fantastic. I will say i was not too impressed with the sound quality as i thought it sounded a bit flat. i then compared it to my 1993 pressing on clear vinyl and wow what a difference. That pressing is very crisp - great articulation between vocals, guitars and drums - where as this pressing seems a bit muffled. i will say too that in the run in wax on side A there is a noticeable hum that should not be there, this does not occur on the B, C and D sides however, maybe this is just my pressing?
- I knew after getting Green Mind reissue that I couldn’t pass this one up even though already had a nice sounding original. The extras on this are worth the price alone but the sound, mastering, pressing, and packaging are all top notch as well. If you are a fan of this glorious album buy this! Now!
- These four Dinosaur Jr albums are the beste reissue released this year. The packaging is nice, the pressing is very good. A lot of good bonus too. For this album, the peel sessions are a very nice addition.
- The crackle isn't too noticeable on my copy. I did a once over with my anti-static brush before playing it so who knows if that's the culprit? The sound is incredible, though! The Peel sessions are a nice touch, too. Too bad this is import only for US customers. You'll have to pay a pretty penny but if you love this album it should be an easy decision.
- Edited 5 years agoI don't really like writing reviews, but I'm guessing for the price people will want to know if these '90s reissues are worth it. In my opinion, Yes Yes Yes. I should preface my review and state that Dinosaur Jr's 90s albums were the first ones I owned, and maybe for that reason were always my favorites.
Pressing is good. I have no warping or skipping issues on my copies. Despite a decent pre-amp, amp set up, I don't always think Dinosaur Jr sounds best on vinyl. These, however, sound really good. I cleaned all my albums, but there is definitely crackle when the needle drops and between songs, as well as on the quieter acoustic tunes. But given the outstanding quality of the packaging and song selection for the bonus tracks, I don't mind so much in this case. I ordered all 4 LPs and CDs and couldn't be happier. The sleeves are sturdy and covered with photos, liner notes/essays and drawings. (You will have to put the discs in your own sleeve protectors). Some of the bonus tracks included here were exclusive to certain countries such as Japan and Australia back in the 90s, but available now for the first time on these reissues. Over the years I have collected some of those exclusive CD releases, but now I have many of those songs all in one here, and on vinyl, wow. For those of you who know what I'm referring to, the amazing 10 min live version of "What else is new," from the Japanese "Feel the Pain" live EP is included. Also, the CDs contain even more songs in addition to the bonus tracks included on the vinyl LPs. For example, the "Without a Sound" CD contains instrumental versions from the master tapes. Crazy.
Each CD comes with its own booklet. So much material, packaged so nicely. It's all well worth the money in my opinion. Doesn't feel like a half-assed rip off reissue at all.
Outstanding job by Cherry Red Records in my opinion for these wonderful albums that most Dinosaur Jr fans think are under appreciated. Oh yes, and I purchased direct from Cherry Red Records and received a square pin of each album! They told me in an email that they ran out, but are restocking more.
Hope this review helps anyone on the fence.
