Reviews
- #17114. I got lucky or they fixed the problems mentioned in the negative reviews . Ran it through the vpi and recalibrated my stylus prior to spinning, dropped the needle and made a wish. Happy to report, my copy totally smokes! Zero complaints. No noise floor issues. Love Over Gold is an extremely dynamic album so the mastering needed to be just right. The copy I received nailed it.
- I purchased mine in 2021, insane amount of noise throughout all 4 sides, does anyone know if there has been a new batch since then and if it's known to be less noisy? thanks
- Had very high expectations of this one, but after listening the first time, I must say I'm a little disappointed. A lot of noise on the record and not very enthusiasts about the dynamics. Have the Dire straits debut album also on MOFI, which is much better IMO. Not that this is bad, but my back to black copy is at least equal in quality and sound from this much pricier copy. Will keep it from a collectors point of view, but had no 'wow' experience.
- Easily one of the best sounding records I own. The fact this was done via Plagent process probably helped its case! The ultimate record to close your eyes and get lost to!
- This is a sonic masterpiece in every sense. Hard to see how anyone would be disappointed with this despite any recent bad press around MFSL.
- Best version I've ever heard, the dynamic swing and transient response are quite impressive, such an immersive experience!
- Somebody paid $215 for this album on Discogs? SMH.
- Highest: $215.05
I just picked this up for ~$45 on the Acoustic Sounds website.
Not as good as my Japanese original, but there are some parts which I do like. Seems like they added compression to parts, and/or brought some things forward in the mix which makes it feel less intimate/mysterious, especially on a track like Private Investigations - Kinda lost its mystique and suspense when comparing to an original.
Not a bad version by any stretch - My copy was flat and quiet, but this is after a thorough washing, as I do with all albums I receive these days. - Side A is off-centre, Side B has some major pops I couldn't clean out, disc 2 is slightly warped. All sides play noisy even after cleaning. Sound wise: compared to an old english press that I also have it sounds harsh and less lively. Not a good value for money at all.
- Edited one year agoOf the pre Brothers in Arms Dire Straits Mofi vinyl releases, I felt this was their best one. The extra sence of space and scale that the Gain2 Ultra DSD process gives, really suits this particular album. It doesn’t quite have the life, colour and shimmer of the OG UK pressing, but as a remaster, it works wonderfully. The records spun flat and were dead quiet, plus the gatefold sleeve was of a very high standard.
Pity about Mofigate though. Oh well! - My first MOFI to not be great.
Side A plays lower than Side B. I had to turn my amp up 90% to get all of Telegraph Road but back down to 80% to save my ears on Private Investigation. Other than the album is dead silent. Even on Side A with my system being at almost max volume i couldn't hear the slightest whisper of a noise until the needle hit the dead-end loop. The soundstage is great, lots of space.
