Photek - Modus Operandi chadallen

An interesting feature of the CD versions of this, and the single Hidden Camera, is that both seem to feature a vinyl sound effect at the beginning. I don't think for a minute that either CD is a vinyl rip, but it just seems that the label decided they wanted the CD to sound a bit like it.

On the Modus CD, the vinyl effect is present at the start of "Trans 7".

On the Hidden Camera CD, the vinyl effect is present at the start of "Hidden Camera (Static Mix)".

Amazing and mystical sound journey here! Not only for dnb/jungle fans. Each track is complete and perfect here, can't choose the best one. This is one of the most mysterious musical work for me. Listened it at first on CD in 1999 and it's still just as much enjoy after 14 years! Must-listen electronic album, i'm sure.

What makes this my favourite Drum and Bass album is not only the genius drum programming, but the restraint shown in production. Unlike some other D&B LPs, it's not just a collection of dance tracks swamped by brutal bass. It changes pace and mood. Aleph 1 is a particular example;just a complex and compelling rhythm overlaid wioth twisting acidy bleeps. I read in an interview that KJZ is short for Kirk's Jazz, a tribute to Kirk De Giorgio and his record collection.

in this ridiculoid's opinion, one of the best Drum & Bass albums of all time. extremely detailed and fluid drum programming (check KJZ) that builds a complex spiderweb upon which images of the spacetime continuum and its interstices are projected. the perfect soundtrack for travelling through a black hole into the azoic regions
