RSD Black Friday 2019 first release. Numbered box set on 180 gram vinyl, limited to 5000 copies.

The first release from the newly-launched Garcia Live series features a recording from the historic Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey on March 1, 1980. The band performed an early and a late show on this evening, as was common at the time. The shows were originally multi-tracked on a 24-track mobile rig for WNEW's broadcast of the early show.

The band, which included Garcia on guitar and vocals, partner in crime John Kahn on bass, Ozzie Ahlers on Keys and Johnny de Foncesca on drums at the time, was wrapping up a three-week East Coast run with the performances on this evening. Highlights including a take on the Jimmie Rodgers penned rave-up, "That's All Right," an early show encore of "Deal" and a rollicking version of "That's What Love Will Make You Do" show Jerry and the band loose and fluid at the end of the tour.

Beautiful box set. Sound and packaging are top notch. Really enjoyable JGB release.

This vinyl pressing is such an upgrade from the CD version. Bass sounds tighter, keyboards sparkle, and Jerry sounds on point. Vinyl is silent, and the recording quality is superb. Catfish John, Simple Twist of Fate, and Russian Lullaby are my favorites, but there is so much great music on these 2 sets, again highlighting Jerry's range. A really well done box set. Please keep them coming!

#666 checking in. I think Jerry is infused with the devil himself on my copy. This pressing is fantastic.

I am more of a casual Jerry Garcia fan, but after listening to Live on the Eel from last RSD I had to pick this up. The production is excellent on this box set! I will be listening to this often as Jerry's distinct playing sounds superb on this vinyl set. Just get it and you will not regret it.

Spinning Garcia Band Live Vol 1 now. This is a step up in quality from Live on the Eel. Hardback, hinged, soft-touch box. Very nice and professional looking. All 5 Lps come in their own mini sleeve, although I could do (and will do) without the cheap white paper liners. Comes with a good 4 page essay on the formation and history of band with photos. CB in the deadwax, perfect pressings. Honestly, unless they wanted to make it color vinyl, there is no way to improve this one.
