- Edited 9 months agoOther than the obvious (LFO's Freak and Ken's own Extra), what references does the video for Bells Of New Life include? I had just seen it and love it. Quality music videos aren't dead just yet!
Also, I think that by now 'Positive Techno' should be coined as a style (Uplifting sounds too cheesy and unfitting). The last 40 minutes of his Tokyo Dance Music Week set from 2023 are further examples, along many others'.
(That one is so good... the only from recent memory that deserved to be recorded onto tape.) - Glad Ken has moved a little more away from the clubby dance romp which for me made his albums far more forgettable unlike Jellytones and before. Not his best and a little over produced in places but a worthy purchase that sits nicely with his deeper music and just enough punch without overly aiming for the dancefloor - a good thing for me!
- Ishii returns to his colourful hyperspace techno sound after more than 13 years (!!) since Sunriser. Overall this is a good release, Like A Star At Dawn, Chaos Theory, Bells Of New Life all exemplifying that essentially Japanese techno melodicity that makes Ken's music unique. Frustratingly, though, there's a set of tracks around the second half: Vector 2, Skew Lines, Poly Graph and Quantum Teleportation that head straight for glitchy minimalist tech house / ambient territory that really do not go anywhere interesting. But the rest of the album is very worthwhile and a welcome return to form.
