- Edited 2 years agoA good analogy for Fog is the scene from 'Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade' where the nazi-baddie sends a hapless soldier into the temple to retrieve the Holy Grail, only for some hidden booby-trap to lop his head off and send it tumbling back down the steps.
These drums are equally dangerous. If you're not on your guard then it'll be off with your head too. - The Fog is a deranged track, Darren is brutally assaulting the breaks like Frank Castle one of his enemies. Bass bombs and mutilated synths scream from the abyss, if you play this at the right volume, it will probably cause your skull to crack.
- Glad to see so much love for this. 1 of those rare pieces where it's almost impossible to decide which is the better track. Saying that, The Difference is the one for me with its modest Apache (complete with clicks where it must have been sampled from vinyl) riding along nicely to a killer bassline
- I never wanted to choose between these two tracks. In their own "genre" they are both gems. When I first bought it I played The Difference more often then Fog. A must have. Fog is also featured on the compilation Suspect Package http://www.discogs.com/Various-Suspect-Package/release/54044
- Edited 6 years agoI strongly urge anyone who's got this (and if you haven't just buy it) to have a good re-listen to the flip side
You see, for me it's all about The Difference - yes Fog grabs all the attention (and for obvious reasons - dark as..) but the flip is a masterpiece of layers just building and building while the throbbing bass hypnotises its victims. And a lovely suspended pause just before the first drop..we certainly are in a new place now! - Holy shit fog takes me back. Fantastic track. In fact Im going buy a copy tomorrow. Simple. Life can be so easy.
- Edited 12 years agoFog is a real undeniable dark, hard core DnB classic. I must have listened to this over a few hundred times and it still, every time, it makes my hairs stand on end. The filters on this are perfectly timed, and the drop of the kicks within the breaks so rigid that the percussion thoroughly rinses. Then there are the strings, straight out of classic thrillers - think black and white - only a very minimal phrase usage too. Basically, I know I'm not being effuse when I say this is a work of genius. To cap it off, anybody I play this to, no matter if they are more techno aligned, into noise and industrial, or perversely they have no real electronic preferences to speak of, are either impressed by this or want a copy. Ive already given three away as presents because it is bound to please. True shock and awe.
