Show All 14 Reviews- stop paying so much for this album they will be repressing it very soon... cd version sound 10x better than lp!
- This pressing is one of the quietest I own and for that reason I barely play it. When the volume has to be that high to get it to sound loud, the tiniest pop/click (of which there are MANY) is startling and takes you out of the experience. Were it a clean pressing it wouldn’t be an issue, but even brand new out of the shrink it was a noisy yet quiet LP. Do not recommend
- Edited one year agoUse a miscrofiber tissue and you will rediscover this LP ! Sound is far better after this !
- The comments calling this release quiet are spot on. Overall sound quality seems good and noiseless, but you really have to crank your system to get the volume up.
- Purchased from new. Very noisy and crackly. Looking forward to the definitive version as I really like this album.
- Grunge + Emo fucked and had an industrial baby. This could be on repeat for hours and won't get old.
- Currently giving this my first listen thru after recently picked up a sealed copy.
The sound is interesting. There are some real pounders, tracks with a great bass line and good punch like Head Down. The A Side is good, but neither 1,000,000, Discipline or Echoplex really match the punch of Head Down.
Not picking up a lot of surface noise, just the occasional pop. No real complaints from me here. Although the noise does start to kick in a fair bit Lights in the Sky.
We know Trent doesn't record like this, but I've always sort of thought of this album as the closest he gets to a live band recording. The mix and the mastering really reflects that. Some are a bit light on the low end, others punch like we expect NIN to. - I just managed to get hold of a new, sealed copy. I had very low expectations based on these comments.
However, quiet as the pressing may be, the overall quality is ok in my opinion.
I find vinyl form the 2000s to have a slightly flat sound and 'Year Zero' and 'The Slip' match in that respect.
In summary though, once the bass kicks in results are quite rewarding for me personally. Especially on 'Disipline', 'Head Down', 'The Four Of Us Are Dying' and 'Demon Seed'. I also found 'Lights In The Sky' and 'Carona Radiata' both sounded OK considering how quiet they are.
All-in-all if you find a cheap copy it is worth it in my humble opinion... - This album was my first experience in hearing non-fill. Pretty bummed many of the NIN releases are not pressed with care considering they command such high prices and limited availability.
- Very quiet and disappointing for an album that is supposed to be so loud, yet it is the only vinyl version out there...
