Reviews
- This is my 5 year old's favourite jazz album (he is especially partial to this version of Moon River). Fantastic lineup and music. No surface noise and flat pressing.
- I’m not super knowledgeable about jazz records, so I feel under qualified to critique this. Most of the other reviews seem to cover the bases, so I will just say my copy sounds fantastic. No quality issues to report, can’t believe I picked this up for $8 new.

Klipsch R-101 SW - Absolutely outstanding pressing—and the music speaks for itself. One of my favorite Jazz Messengers albums, and it sounds amazing here. Dead quiet, non-distorting transients, detail and soundstage galore. Well done.
- My copy is dead silent, a perfect pressing. As others have mentioned, the sound quality and KG’s work here are fantastic. Curtis Fuller was a great addition to the Messengers, and Shorter shines as usual, and he managed to make Moon River a screamer. Great record.
- Pulled this out randomly for a spin tonight and I was blown away by how good this record sounds. A crystal clear recording, great mix and every instrument sounds spot on.
Superb mastering and a flawless pressing. I love this iteration of the famous Jazz Messengers and Curtis Fuller really adds a cool dimension to the sound of the band. Art Blakey’s drums sound fantastic, especially the toms.
This is one of the best of the Classic series releases, simply stellar. - Despite an AllMusic review granting 4 stars (out of 5), and even with a meticulous from-analog-source-tapes effort, it would seem that Blue Note over issued this 80th Anniversary series. Perhaps they were looking to make up for the shoddy & greedy production plan for the 75th Series. This sounds superb, and is definitely worth owning. Unusual for a coveted title like this to shrink below original sealed, retail price, but it does happen and it has happened here to Buhaina's unDelight. Get it while the value is still depressed. Over time as the market absorbs excess inventory, expect some price appreciation. Now is the time.
- Music mastering is superb. Tip of the hat to Kevin Gray. Arts drums are booming (in a good way). The pressing quality is questionable with plenty of audible zips through the non-infill on side A. Side B is perfect. Please dump the paper inner sleeves!
